SUMMARY:Citizen science weekend: help us count what lives here
DESCRIPTION:Saturday and Sunday  | Painkalac Valley\, Aireys Inlet \nHave you ever wanted to contribute to real ecological science? This month we are running our first citizen science weekend in the valley\, and we need your eyes\, ears and enthusiasm. \nOver two days\, trained volunteers and ecologists will lead small groups through different parts of the valley to record flora and fauna observations using the iNaturalist app. No scientific background is required\, just curiosity and a willingness to look closely at the world around you. \nSaturday will focus on birds and mammals\, with an early morning session taking advantage of the best wildlife activity of the day. Sunday will shift attention to plants\, fungi and invertebrates\, with a particular focus on identifying areas where weed management is most urgently needed. \nParticipation is free. Sessions run in two-hour slots and spaces are limited to keep groups small and wildlife disturbance to a minimum. Register at [email/link] and indicate which sessions you would like to join. \nAll observations will be uploaded to a shared database and will directly inform the Painkalac Project’s restoration masterplan.

SUMMARY:Community planting day: help us restore the valley floor
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 9am – 1pm | Meet at the Bambra Road gate\, Aireys Inlet \nOur first community planting day is coming up\, and we would love you to be part of it. We will be planting local provenance tubestock along a section of the valley floor\, helping to establish the native groundcover and understorey that the valley’s threatened wildlife depends on. \nNo experience is needed. We will provide all tools\, gloves and plants\, and there will be plenty of people on hand to show you what to do. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and bring sturdy footwear\, a hat\, sunscreen and a water bottle. \nMorning tea will be provided. \nThis is a wonderful opportunity to get your hands in the soil\, meet fellow community members and play a direct part in bringing the Painkalac Valley back to life.

SUMMARY:An afternoon with our ecologists: what the surveys are telling us
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 3pm | Aireys Inlet Community Hall \nJoin us for a free community afternoon with the ecologists and field naturalists who have been surveying the Painkalac Valley over the past year. They will share what they have found\, what surprises them\, what concerns them\, and what the data tells us about where the restoration work needs to focus first. \nThis is a rare opportunity to hear directly from the scientists at the heart of the Project and to ask the questions that matter to you. Whether you are a local resident\, a naturalist\, a student or simply curious\, you are warmly welcome. \nEntry is free. No registration required.
